Community Broadband
Crabtree Hall Business Centre is proposing to install and operate a high speed internet service that will provide the community with much improved broadband infrastructure. Rural areas, and ours is no exception, suffer unfairly from poor broadband connectivity. We are proposing a solution for our community that will enable the same level of functionality that urban populations currently enjoy.
- Connections won’t drop out
- Online shopping will be quicker, faster and more reliable
- Uninterrupted streaming of video
- View live television
- Webcam links and video conferencing
- Online gaming
- Make free phone calls over the internet
- Webinars
- Online education tools
What is it?
The Pybus family who own and operate Crabtree Hall Business Centre would like to install a 100mb fibre optic line directly to the business centre. Once this is installed, we will be able to use this connection to set up a local network that will be able to supply the community with a high speed stable internet connection. This will be achieved using Wimax, sometimes known as 4g technology. This method has been deployed successfully by Digital Teesdale, giving coverage throughout Teesdale.
Subscribers will have a receiver that will be able to pick up the signal and deliver a guaranteed broadband speed that can be set to whatever the customers requirements are. Prices for the service will start at around £20 per month.
How far will coverage extend?
If we are able to maximise the scope of the project anybody in the following parishes will be able to receive the service:
- Ainderby Myres with Holtby
- Appleton East and West
- Arrathorne
- Bolton on Swale
- Burrill
- Ellerton
- Fencotes
- Finghall
- Hackforth
- Hornby
- Hunton
- Kipling
- Killerby
- Kirkby Fleetham
- Langthorne
- Langton
- Newton Le Willows
- Scruton
- Thornton Watlass
- Thrintoft
- Whitwell
It may be that once the service has been installed and the signal tested, other parishes will be included. If you live close to or near the parishes in this list, we need your support as well. The service may reach you and we need the maximum response to help our grant application and deliver the most extensive service possible.
What can you do?
To make this a viable proposal we need your support.
We are applying for a grant that will tap into government funding for projects that deliver high speed broadband to rural areas. To make a successful bid, we need to show the extent of public engagement with the project.
Without your help this project will not be able to happen. We have sent this email to around 150 local people but we need as many responses as possible.
